Pippin
Assistant Sound Designer & A1
As the Assistant Sound Designer and A1 of Pippin, it was my job to support the work of the cast and the pit orchestra. With this production, there were a couple of main challenges. First, this was one of the largest casts of a production during my time at JMU, and mixing a show like Pippin with an ensemble that large is its own challenge. We also were trying something new, mixing from inside the booth by having a microphone placed in the audience that we received audio from. Additionally, we were using a new orchestra pit configuration that put the entire pit in the trap room, we could not see the orchestra and could only communicate on comms. All of these factors combined were certainly obstacles to work through as the A1, but it turned out very well in the end, and I can provide mixing samples from the production on request.
